Hi, Anyone got an idea how to get internet to work with 7.3? Already tried everything, deleted ippp and recreated it. Obviosly the nameserver cannot be found - thogh it is indicated as it's supposed to. The installation was an upgrade from 7.2 and - besides this - went without problems. I heard a rumor that there would be a faulty version of 7.3 which should not have been sold to anybody and went into sale only by error, but SuSE denied this. Does anybody know some more about this ?? T.i.A. I have "acquired" a Libretto 110CT from work, and wish to install 7.1 on it - problem is NO CD-ROM, and PCMCIA network card / floppy, which means that I can boot from the install disk, but when I load the MODULES disk for the PCMCIA drivers, it can't read it (because it needs the drivers to read the PCMCIA disk)... AAARRRGGGHHH !!! I can copy 7.1 to my server, if I could get the network card going... Does anyone know of a simple way to get this working ? Jon
Why 7.1? I bought the 7.1 package and it was a total flop, a waste of money it was. SuSE 7.2 on the other hand is just great. Haven't you got a 7.2 on an ftp server near you? Cheers, Helgi Örn On Tuesday 23 October 2001 14.27, Jon Biddell wrote:

I have 7.2 disks which I can place on my FTP server, but getting the network card to work is the issue. JOn

After your suggestion about my modem woes, I upgraded smpppd but still wvdial is reporting Invalid arguments and failure to open the modem device. I re-installed the whole system again, but to no avail. And now your email implies the Internet won't work anyway. I've now got a useless Linux operating system that means reverting to windoze for Internet access. My own conclusion is that Suse has f*cked up with 7.3 and I, for one, am NOT happy. I held off from upgrading from 7.0, so things could become better, and they do seem to have on the surface (a la M$), but something major seems to have gone wrong with this distro and the Internet. Perhaps someone from Suse would care to respond? Peter
I think someone posted this problem a few days ago. YaST2 offers to install LILO to mbr of hard disk, but when you reboot all you get is LIL- This happened to me. The solution seems to be to run lilo -b /dev/hda JDL
