Strange mail error message from this list
I sent one email to this list yestoday and got a mail error notice in my mailbox today. Seems that I sent the email to an expired address and the got rejected. but I only sent the email to this list NOT to this address:<armisis@dsl.pipex.com>! Is this normal? as I understand, I sent msg to this list and the server will forward my msg to everyone. that means, any msg sent to this server will be forwarded to this unvalid address and a error notice will be sent back. Is it? The notice i got is: \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The original message was received at 2005-05-05 12:23:02 +0100 from postoffice.armilan [10.0.0.1] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <armisis@dsl.pipex.com> -----Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to postoffice.armilan.:

No need to get so exited and clutter the list with this blahblah. We all get them, just blacklist pipex.com and be doen with it. Theo -- Theo v. Pipex is an ISP, so you will be blocking all their subscribers, this is not a good way to do this. If you want to blacklist just that address, maybe its a better idea! Its obvious there was an error, i got a load this morning as well, but blacklisting will eventually shrink the amount of mail you get from the list. What if a subscriber at pipex.com knows the answer to your question? Cheers, H

Tuff luck. I'm not going to bother with specially written header_checks or SA rules or such for this blatend lack of clueination. I'v blacklisted 62.241.163.0/24 btw, not all of pipex. I got a bunch, one from back in February. The ISP must have just woke up to the fact that e-mail is no longer valid. Maybe the list maintainer can remove the address from the list. Rich -- Rich Matson Reno, Nv. USA

I think the list owner has already received more than one request to do so, I know of at least one other aside from my own. The mailserver admin probably only noticed this morning that his mailserver had a seriously packed queue and tried to flush all of them. (^-^) Sandy

Yeah, yesterday I got 5 of them, today at about 12:00 I got another 6 and just 20 minutes ago I got another 33 of them. And I sent two eMails to suse-linux-e-owner@suse.com already. Martin

Note that there is little he can do about the mail you get now. They were sent months ago. Even if SLE-owner removes the address now, you may still get the mail for another month or two. Only the sending mail server admin can stop those

That's true. But he can stop new ones from queuing, and being sent to us in August. And he may know what the real address is that got subscribed, I can't. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
