RE: [SLE] File Sync between two separate servers
Hi All,
We have a situation where we have a primary file server, and a back up one, what I would like to do is sync up changes from the primary file server (directory /somestuff for example) with the backup server's /somestuff directory. Ala, any files that have been changed on the primary get copied to the backup machine say once a day?
I know mirroring HD's in the same system would be a better way to go, but has someone done something like this before?
I do every day with Unison: http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/ There should be unison packages available with your distribution. I think SuSE 8.0 and above have unison. If not, there's binaries available from the web site. -jrh
When we had to move 3.5TB of data from our old EMC Symms to our new ones we were allowed just a 1 hour outage. So we used mirrordir (http://mirrordir.sourceforge.net/) on Linux, Solaris & HP-UX during the week to sync up the old and new areas via nfs. At changeover time we just ran it in sync mode to bring across any changes. It's lightening fast and beat EMC's own solution. Thansk to Paul Sheer for a GREAT tool. Damian
