[S.u.S.E. Linux] pppd permissio

I have setup my ppp-on script which is running fine from my user account after doing: chmod u+s pppd However, once I shutdown and re-boot I get "pppd:Permission denied " when running ppp-on and have to do the chmod all over again. What's wrong with this? Steve -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hi Steve- S.u.S.E. has its permissions for some files set up in /etc/permissions. So everytime you run SuSEConfig (or reboot??) the permissions for your system are reset from that file, and the permissions for pppd just happen to be present in /etc/permissions. What I did was comment the line in /etc/permissions then I ran chmod on pppd. Luck, Mark --- Steve Montgomery wrote:

Hi all: I'm just getting started with Linux; trying to get things to work together and figuring out what the capabilities are. My question for today is whether there is a device driver for the Imation LS 120 floppy drives? (This is a nice little drive which reads both ordinary 3.5 disks as well as a 120 mb floppy of the physical same size.) gv. ____________________________________________________ | | | Gary Vinyard | | Department of Biology /314 | | University of Nevada | | Reno, Nevada 89557-0015 | | | | gvinyard@med.unr.edu | | <A HREF="http://www.brrc.unr.edu"><A HREF="http://www.brrc.unr.edu</A">http://www.brrc.unr.edu</A</A>> | |____________________________________________________| -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

gv.
It is recognized as hd* and support is built into the kernel, at least 2.0.32 and later, in the block devices section, ide/atapi floppy support. Jerome K. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

1. chmod 666 /dev/ttySx (whichever device your modem is) 2. chown root.root pppd 3. chmod +s pppd You will have to do this everytime you run SuSEconfig as SuSEconfig will reset the permissions for pppd. Hope this helps you. Steve Montgomery wrote:
