how to upgrade KDE on SuSE 9.3
So, I google'd some of the issues I was having with KDE 3.4.0 level b and find that it can be upgraded. How do I do this? I think I remember setting up a supplement source in YaST in previous versions, I can't remember what source to used and how it was done. -- Robert -- Robert

Install ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/yast-source/ as an update source. Version is 3.4.2

Install ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/yast-sour ce/ as an update source.
Please don't. Use one of the mirrors instead. The directory contains the same, but it's better to spread the load

OK, I have a mirror on the list, and tried the ftp.suse.com site as well, but what do I do next? I tried doing an update, but no new updates found. -- Robert

Hi Robert, For future reference, here's a link to a searchable archive of SLE: <http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=suse-linux-e&r=1&w=2> This topic, adding supplementary sources to YaST and upgrading the installed KDE or Gnome, has been discussed and explained exhaustively on this list more times than I can count. If you invest some time researching this endeavor, and particularly if you search using the link I've provided, you'll find all the answers to all of the usual questions and no one will have to bother describing it all over again. Which makes sense, since it's already been done for you ;-) regards, - Carl

Hi again Robert, It took me a quarter hour to find the detailed procedure I posted to this list some time ago (my, how time flies!) I've updated it for 9.3 and am posting it again to, hopefully, make finding it less troublesome for you and others. 1) Add a new ftp installation source in YaST using one of the mirrors: Example: field 1: "ftp.mirrordomain.ext" field 2: "pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/yast-source" -->no quotes; no leading or trailing slashes; obviously, use a real site. Login: Anonymous password: leave blank 2) Close the Installation Sources module and open the "Install and Remove Software" module. 3) Select the "Package Groups" filter in the drop-down list, top-left. 4) In the left pane, scroll all the way to the bottom and select "zzz All" 5) Wait a few seconds for the list of packages in the right pane to completely refresh. 6) Right-click on any package in the right pane, highlight "All in this list" and select "Update if newer version available." [Note: Any package listed in the right pane that is installed on your system will be upgraded if a newer version is available in the supplementary source you just added, above.] 7) Click "Accept" good luck & regards, - Carl

Thanks, but when I try to update all, the libpqxx-2.2.7.so is missing and a depencies error comes up. I searched the web and it looks like that package (libpqxx) is part of the 9.3 distro. But the only libs for pgsql I can find in YaST software are the postgresql-libs that doesn't seem to include that package, only libpq.so. -- Robert
