[S.u.S.E. Linux] Printing
A few days ago, I decided to pick up an old 386DX-33 with 4MB RAM (to which I added another 4MB), 200MB HDD, 10Mbps ethernet card, and a old HP LaserJet printer (non-PS) for below $100 (Canadian). Today, I set up that machine to act as the print server for my home LAN. Since the printer is a non-PS printer, I had to set up GS to do the job of handling PS files which is the format of almost all the documents I deal with. I'm wondering what's the performance that everyone else is getting using GS. I'm able to make 4 ppm, which is the speed of the printer, and it takes about 1min 30sec to spool a 10-page PS file. It's not a problem for me because I work upstairs, and the printer is located downstairs. (I have to stuff the printer downstairs due to lack of space in where I do all my work.) Also, as most of the documents that I deal with are fairly big,
10 pages, 1.5 minute to spool a file that will take >2.5min to print is too bad.
