[opensuse] Skip the update of a specific version of a package
Hello, Is there a way to "skip" a particular version of an update indefinitely until a new version of the package comes out, so that it isn't offered to me in Apper constantly? Version 11.2.202.235 of flash-player turned out to be very unstable with my setup so i reverted to the previous version, and locked the flash-player and flash-player-kde4 packages. I find it very annoying that this update is still listed in Apper every time even though i exclude it when applying updates. With the way this is working the last few days it completely defeats the purpose of the "updates available" icon notification, as I have to check every time if it's really something I'm not already aware of. Windows 7 update manager does this pretty well I think. You right click the item and opt to not be offered that specific patch anymore (don't remember how it's called specifically). Locking packages AFAIK is currently broken in Apper - so don't use Apper, but instead use zypper or YaST. Both of those tools respect the application locks/taboo flags. apper does not honor taboo request as does YaST Online Update (YOU)...recommend you disable (many just uninstall, as i have) apper, and then run YOU occasionally...it will not attempt to install those updates right-clicked and marked taboo.. -- dd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, I will consider disabling Apper. (if only that it's redundant) But YOU doesn't really seem to be much better for the specific case I described. I am prompted with an obtrusive conflict resolution window for flash-player each time I opens it up. I am 100% sure that I will never, ever want to install ver. 11.2.202.235 of flash-player. I just want to "ignore" or "forget" it until the next version of flash-player comes out. Is there an alternative to lock/taboo that would be better for this? Or where can I tell it not to prompt me for the same information every time? On Thu, May 17, 2012 at 7:53 PM, Roger Luedecke <roger.luedecke@gmail.com> wrote:

add a lock with zypper:
zypper al flash-player
But you see, it locks all versions of flash-player. What he wants, and I agree, I also want that feature, is lock or taboo only one version, so that we get prompted to install the next version. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Thanks, Gent There isn't really. PackageKit basically ignores and undoes any locks on
