Inspiron sounds problems mostly solved, Except Xine with DVDs...help!
Hi all, I mostly solved my earlier sound problems (Dell Inspiron 2650). Somehow the modem driver installation had corrupted the ALSA drivers. Once i removed and reinstalled those (from Yast2) then sound came back. However, I am unable to get any sound from DVDs in Xine. I compiled and installed the newest version from xinehq.de. Everything else plays just fine, with sound, but playing a DVD I just get picture without sound. I did install libdvdcss. What should I do? Here's the output from Xine: :~> xine This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.9.23. (c) 2000-2003 The xine Team. libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 1-rc3a from http://xine.sf.net libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access libdvdnav: DVD Title: BLADE_RUNNER_16X9 libdvdnav: DVD Serial Number: 224F9585 libdvdnav: DVD Title (Alternative): BLADE_RUNNER_16X9 libdvdnav: Unable to find map file '/home/josh/.dvdnav/BLADE_RUNNER_16X9.map' libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00fe0000. I finally got some sound out of Xine playing a DVD. In the audio menu, I unchecked "a52_pass_through", and changed the "audio driver to use" to AUTO from ALSA. Then I restarted Xine, and voila, sound. Changed back to ALSA but left a52_pass_through unchecked, and it works fine now. I googled all afternoon attempting to solve this problem, and saw no mention of this - what is a52_pass_through? Josh On Fri, 2004-01-02 at 02:44, Josh Poage wrote:
