Re: [SLE] kernel for SCSI scanner
Hello, Apparently stock EIDE kernel shouldn't work with SCSI devices. You can try to use stock SCSI kernel from SuSE 6.3. But you need to know what SCSI modules were compiled into stock SCSI kernel. If any one of these SCSI modules corresponds to chipset name on your SCSI adapter card. If you don't know you have to recompile your kernel. Go to /usr/src/linux and execute 'make xconfig' In the menu you should see SCSI drivers topic. Click on it and check 'Y' or 'M' on appropriate SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter. You can go through all kernel configuration topics and optimize your kernel according to your hardware. After click on 'Save and exit'. Execute 'make dep clean bzImage' Execute 'make modules' Execute 'make modules_install' Copy and rename bzImage to /boot/vmlinuz. Copy System.map to /boot/System.map go to /boot and execute 'lilo' Execute 'shutdown -r now' Invoke YAST and follow the procedure to install your scanner. Enjoy it. Regards, Alex
Hi everyone.
Am currently using the stock EIDE kernel from SuSE 6.3 and want to get a scanner working. Can I use this kernel for an SCSI scanner? If not could I use the stock SCSI kernel that comes with 6.3? And evreything else still work OK? Without having to compile kernels and modules? Or am I asking too much?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give and apologies to SANE list members since I think that this may be a little off topic.
Best wishes from Steve at FeF, Spain.
