The best mail program is TkRat! I'm really into tcl/tk programs, running on twm: elegant, simple, no borders. A window manager doesn't have to get in the way. -- Jon Snidal jonno@printsters.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I read somewhere Postilion is based on TkRat, I believe. What's the difference, do you know? On Wed, 1 Jul 1998 jonno@printsters.com wrote:

I'm not sure about Postilion, and I deleted the message about it; where is it again? In the meantime, TkRat and TkDesk are two of the finest programs I have used. This S.u.S.E. bundle is first-rate! -- Jon Snidal jonno@printsters.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I don't remember where it is. Freshmeat had a link to it. It looks best with TkStep, so if you decide to install it, I'd get that to. The RECENT one, which is 8.x. On Wed, 1 Jul 1998 jonno@printsters.com wrote:

Tkrat is great. Neither tkrat or postilion will build with libtk.4.2.so linked to libtkstep.4.1.so on my box. If I move libtk4.2.so back to it's original location and run ldconfig, they will both build, however postilion bails when I switch back over to tkstep. Tkrat runs fine under tkstep though, you just have to build it under libtk. jonno@printsters.com wrote:

Hey, what's tkstep? I went and installed the package, but I don't know how to run it. Is it not a window manager started by startx? TIA -- Jon. On 1 Jul, Michael Lankton wrote:

TkStep= modified replacement for Tk. It has a different look that some prefer. If you want to see the different look, try browsing some of the TkStep links on the web. Some sights have screenshots of programs using both Tk and TkStep and give you back to back pics of the corresponding looks. (Sorry I don't have the URLS handy.) tkstep is a library that replaces tk and gives tcl/tk apps the NeXT style widgets. symlink wish to wishstep and libtk4.2.so to libtkstep.4.1.so or it won't be used. The version of tkstep that comes with SuSE is for tcl7.6/tk4.2. There is also a tkstep for newer versions of tk, although not as many apps use the newer version. I have a screenshot of an Xaw app on my linux page. What neXtaw does for libXaw apps, tkstep does for tk apps. jonno@printsters.com wrote:
