It could be subfs that causes the headaches. Before you insert the installation CD for the first time, try unmounting the CD device (yes, unmount it before you put in the CD, this will disable the subfs automounter) I haven't tried UT 2004, but subfs was pretty buggy in 9.1, so it's worth a try

With the DVD version of the game there is a problem with finding the dvd media, where you have to set the variable SETUP_CDROM to /media/dvd (or whatever the path to your media is).

suse 91. subfs sucks After the first CD is unmounted, it does not see the mounting of the second CD. Try it. Insert a data cd in the cdplayer cd /media/cdrom ls -al cd / manually eject the CD insert the new CD cd /media/cdrom ls -la cd / You will either get the same directory listing twice , or errors. Trying to mount (using the mount command) also fails.

export SETUP_CDROM=/media/dvd/ or setenv SETUP_CDROM /media/dvd/ if you're in tcsh.

Perhaps the CD version has a similar issue?
