Hi I'm looking to upgrade the CD reader in my server to a Panasonic DVR-109D, primarily so that it can read the SuSE distro DVD. Has anyone any experience of this unit, will it read the DVDs and is it SuSE 9.2/9.3 compatible? Thanks, in hope John

I'm looking to upgrade the CD reader in my server to a Panasonic DVR-109D, primarily so that it can read the SuSE distro DVD.
I would recommend Plextor. Have used their units for a long time beginning with scsi units and OS/2. Have a DVD-reader(cdrw) and a DVD+/-RW presently working perfectly under SuSE 9.0 (until 9.3 arrives, 9.1 and 9.2 still on the shelf). AND, their prices have come down close to the LiteOn and LTs. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery

Thanks for the recommendation. Did these earlier versions use double layer DVDs, like 9.2 does? J

Huh, there were *no* single-layer DVD's when I ran OS/2, IIRC. But, yes, my DVD reader (cdrw) did read correctly the 9.2 dual-layer DVD's. It is a 20/10/40-12a, Model: "PLEXTOR CD-R PX-320A", 20: SCSI 00.0: 10602 CD-ROM (CD-RW) [Created at scsi.237] Unique ID: zyP1.gYK0ujrTgr9 Hardware Class: cdrom Model: "PLEXTOR CD-R PX-320A" Vendor: "PLEXTOR" Device: "PLEXTOR CD-R PX-320A" Revision: "1.01" Driver: "ide-scsi" Device File: /dev/sr0 (/dev/hdc) Features: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Drive Speed: 61 Volume ID: "Pix" Application: "K3B THE CD KREATOR VERSION 0.11.20cvs (C) 2003 SEBASTIAN TRUEG AND THE K3B TEAM" Publisher: "paka" Preparer: "K3b - Version 0.11.20cvs" Creation date: "2005030920334800" -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery

Thanks, Patrick. I only ask because I have a DVD drive which won't read the 9.2 disc! I'm off to find a suitable supplier :-)

Try www.LiteOn.com but price shop at www.pricegrabber.com I have one of their CDRW no problems with the drive. I am looking at one of their DVDRW. -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/
