[opensuse] KDE3 screensaver does not start
Hello: I asked this before on the opensuse-kde3 list but I had no any repsonse. Therefor I ask it here, this list has more readers. I have KDE 3.5.10 in openSUSE 12.2. I have a problem with KDE3 screen saver activation. In the KDE control panel -> Appearance & Themes -> Screen Saver window the screen saver is set to: Blank screen, start automatically after 5 min. After logging in to my KDE3 desktop, the screen saver is not activated after 5 minutes of inactivity. If I go to KDE control panel -> Appearance & Themes -> Screen Saver window and untick and then tick back "start automatically", and press apply, the screen saver starts to work normally, it will be activated after 5 minutes of inactivity. (Please note that I did not change the settings). If I log out and log in again, the screen saver will not be activated. I compared config files in ~/.kde, ~/.config but there was no any difference before and after applying the "no-change". How could I fix this? What to look for? I even have no idea where to start. Look for running processes that get started when you unclick and then reclick "start automatically". Also, after doing the above unclick+click check, logout saving your session. This should restart all of the open tasks when KDE restarts. It might be that the screensaver task was down when the session was last saved. (This is one option that I miss in newer KDE4). Disclaimer: I don't run kde3 anymore, as KDE4 has caught up, so this is all from memory. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The session is saved by default and restored on next login in System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Session Management. There are options to start with a new session or restore a manually saved one. What I don't understand, however, is where you go to save a session manually in the first instance. According to "ps -e" there was no program started after clicking "start automatically". There were programs disappeared: 4165 ? 00:00:00 flush-9:10 5266 ? 00:00:00 kio_file 5267 ? 00:00:00 kio_file 5268 ? 00:00:00 kio_file 5269 ? 00:00:00 kio_file

My session manager is set as: "Restore previous session". Even if screensaver is working and I log out, after logging in again, screensaver is not started. I also tried restore manually saved session but it did not make a difference. Furthermore, I don't know how I can save a session manually. It seems that in earlier KDE3 (3.3 ?) versions there was an option "save session" at logout. Now this option is missing there. One more thing I forgot to mention: the screensaver works normally for other users. Can a specilal setting in my session inhibit it? Well, yes, that does make a difference. You need to find a way to NOT save your session upon exiting, and perhaps erase save sessions. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
