Trying to install SuSE 8.1 Pro on the following: D865GBFL Intel 800FSB HT enabled MB 2.6GHz HT enabled Proc 2-40GB WD 40GB HDDs 2-256MB DDR400 Lite-On 52X CD-ROM Intel LAN Intel Extreme Graphics 2 SoundMax Audio Hyperthreading is enabled Though it boots from the CD, it cannot mount the CD for install nor does it identify any IDE devices. The DB at SuSE lists this MB as unknown along with a lot of others :-). RH 7.3, 9.0 & Mandrake 9.1 can correctly identify the hardware, but that is not where I want to go today. Have tried it several ways: ACPI=OFF, APM=OFF & IDE=NODMA (equiv of the "safe" install) yet no go. I did notice the following in demsg: unknown IDE controller at PCI BUS 00 Device fa VID=8086 DID=24d1. Searching on that info did not turn up anything. Also tried turning off hyperthreading but no diff. Any suggestions here? Yeah, I know, just go out and get 9.0, well, when I have the $ I will, but for now I need this distro as it has the packages I need. Chris, I think this has been brought up in previous mails here, but I'll mention it again. Try turning off hyperthreading in the bios, then install. I think that was what was mentioned before, don't remember. Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Thanks Lee... I did turn off hyperthreading in the BIOS, as well as Dual Channel Mem, but neither made any diff, still cannot ID any of the IDE devices. Any more suggestions anyone? Chris R

Ok, sorry Chris, didn't pay attention to the version of SuSE you were installing. 8.1 and the supplied kernel is very likely to have problems with this motherboard. You might be able to make a boot disk using a new kernel and get moving, but I think you will find a new SuSE version with a newer kernel will work better. :o) Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...
