It's amazing what bugs slip through the net! It's not like lpr is a core service or anything! ;-). TIA to any other respondents, regressing to 6.2 does the trick just fine. "Paul Sims" <psims@lombard.co.uk> had this to say:
The LPD daemon keeps dying - every time I print I have to "lpd restart". I note the SDB has an entry for "Problem with network printers with SuSE 6.3" which recommends reinstalling the 6.2 version of lprold. Has anyone experienced this restart problem with lpd ? Does the 6.2 version fix it ?
lprold needs to be replaced from 6.2 as the one with 6.3 doesn't work. W.D.McKinney (Dee) deem@wdm.com "No claim to fame, just saved by Grace."
