[opensuse] SuSE 10.3 + CrossOver + MathType
Here is my experience with using MathType integrated with CrossOver 6.2.0 running on SuSE 10.3. It took me almost a day to put all the pieces together and get an integrated tool to produce nice looking slides /documents. MathType is a s/w package that very easily integrates with MS Office tools on Windows. It helps a lot with generating documents that contain formulae, plots, and pictures (see attached picture). Getting it work with MS Office run through CrossOver is made difficult because both MathType and CrossOver documentation is misleading. MathType is not in the list of products supported by CrossOver. Therefore you're on your own when it comes to installating and integrating it. CrossOver by default installs all non supported packages in different "bottles" called "unsupported" If you follow this CrossOver built-in procedure then MathType won't be integrated with MS Office. In order to integrate it with MS Office MathType has to be installed in the same "bottle" where MS Office is installed. Installing it in a surrogate bottle won't work. For instance, I have have both Windows XP MSO and Windows 2000 MSO. CrossOver installws XP MSO in a bottle called win98, and 2000 MSO in a bottle called win2000. I installed MathType 5.2 with XP MSO (see attached picture). CrossOver will try to put MathType in a surrogate bottle called "unsupported win98". Discard this choice. Force MathTpe installation in win98 and ignore CrossOver warning stating this is likely to cause troubles. The true Windows fonts file must be loaded by Yast. To make it visible to MathType the true fonts must also be installed by CrossOver in the same bottle where MSO and MathType are installed. Regards, Maura Maura Edelweiss M.

Thanks for sharing the steps, Maura. You can also submit your comments to the MathType entry in the Codeweavers compatibility list: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=334 If you need to typeset equations, there is also an equation editor in OpenOffice. But I highly recommend that you consider using Latex (and Kile) to create your documents. You can't beat the elegance of Latex. -- Carlos FL "It is not worth an intelligent man's time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that." - G. H. Good to hear your system is running OK for you again, and hopefully with enough time to get your presentation done with reduced stress. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
