I have the five CD's of SuSE-10.0 Eval but no Quanta Plus. Where can I find it? Second question: where can I find the HowTo's to use the apt-get method to install softwares in a SuSE's environment? Thanks -- Alain Barthélemy cassandre@bartydeux.be http://www.bartydeux.be Linux User #315631

The apt package is on the install media. Use YaST to install it. Then, as I could not find the synaptic package on the media, I did this: 1. edit sources.list: rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/10.0-i386 rpmkeys base update security rpmkeys suser-rbos 2. apt-get update 3. apt-get install synaptic 4. edit again sources.list, or using synaptic/options/repositories add the rest of the repositories. You may find the list here: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386/examples/sources.list.F... Check this article for pointers: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html

I installed on my laptop using the 5-CD set and Quanta Plus is in there. (Some software, such as Thunderbird, is only on the DVD.) When you selected the software prior to the install, did you check off the development packages?

Well, I have been installing Quanta since SuSE-7.* and I just typed "Quanta" in the "search" window.

It's not called quanta on the DVD. If I recall it kwebdev and it comes with several ther nice tools too. I'm pretty sure it's on the CD if you search for the right name. It's part of a larger package and as such has a rather odd name. It's kinda like there is no single package called konqueror, because it's rolled in with other stuff.

You know, everyone is all googly eyed over apt...but golly, yast is a pretty effective tool. --andy
