Hi! I have configured the modem in Yast2. In 7.3 I just gave the wvdial command and I gor a connection. Suse seems to have changed to some other dialer in 8.0, how do I connect to the ISP I set up in Yast2? TIA /Nils-Olov

Actually, it still uses wvdial, but with a slightly more convoluted method of invocing it. That said, if you're running kde you should have a little icon in the "systray" (windows speak, I know :) at the right in the panel. Just click on it to connect. If you're not running kde, run "kinternet". regards Anders
Hi and thanks.! I can now manage to dial up but it stops after I receive a message PAP authentication failed. Where can I find the configuration that says that I'm going to use PAP? /Nils-Olov

Well, all the configuration files that control that are in /etc/ppp/ but it sounds as though you simply entered the wrong password or username. What does the log look like? //Anders
Anders! The log say probably wrong account or password. BUT! I tried to use KPPP to dila up and with the same account and password it worked. I will stick with KPPP for the moment but I will try to figure out how to fix kinternet when I have more time. Thanks for you help. /Nils-Olov

wvdial has some funny behavior with the elements in pap.secrets or chap.secrets. If they are quoted, try unquoting them, (of course that will then probably mess up kppp). Also look for the wvdial.conf file and make sure StupidMode=1 is in there. That tells wvdial to just sendout your pap.secrets right away, as most ISP's now prefer. Otherwise, wvdial may be trying a conventional login. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

1. It tells wvdial to start pppd, wvdial doesn't send pap secrets, pppd does. 2. There is no wvdial.conf if you're using kinternet in 8.0. It is generated dynamically from the contents of you provider file in /etc/sysconfig/network/providers/ In that file you should have STUPIDMODE=yes if you want wvdial to get StupidMode=1 //Anders
