Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Ethernet install
Okay, so with two W95 desktops and a W95 laptop I would have (for
example):
Linux 192.168.1.1 W95#1 192.168.1.2 W95#2 192.168.1.3 W95Laptop 192.168.1.4
Right?

Tim, You are correct. I will remind you that you will have to setup the TCP/IP on the windows for the networkcard, and set the IP address as you have shown above. Also don't forget to share your directorys on the windows boxes. Once you have that all setup you can ping the Linux and Windows boxes to check that they are working. You should find Ping under the Windows directory. Under Windows the Ping command will ping the address about four times and then quit, from the Linux box you will have to stop it by Ctrl C, otherwise I think it would go on for ever. Now there is also a file under the Windows directory called Hosts.sam which you should put the host names and IP addresses in. You should be about ready to install Samba sometime. If I can make a suggestion here, make backups of any files you might change by hand. Also write down any modifications you do, even if they are via Yast. This will help you know what you have done and have not done. Well I hope I have not confused you, and I think I have covered most of the basic information. I'm very quickly comming to the end of my experiance, but if I can be of any other help please drop me a line. Thanks. It's a little late to be doing it yet tonight, but tomorrow I'll give it a go. Right now I have all the Windows computers connected through a little hub, but offhand I don't remember what bindings they're using now. I'll have to make sure they are all using TCP/IP. I really do appreciate your help. I found the Samba online howto, also. -= Tim Hanson =- Exotic Wesseaddle - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
