Hi all! Using 10.3 and trying to get my Moto Q to sync with KDEPIM. I am following http://en.opensuse.org/Synce: to install the apps needed, i used the yast -1 <app> way. I copied every line and pasted it into the terminal. Some apps were not on the DVD, like gobject2-devel and gnet-devel. I installed these from opensuse repo. After all those packages have been installed, i download and chmod the script and run it with ./synce_instV221.sh. I get errors while the script is running: this is while building ODCCM, checking for DBUS... yes checking for HAL... configure: error: Package requirements (hal) were not met: No package 'hal' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables HAL_CFLAGS and HAL_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop. Thank you for you patience. Thank you for you patience. All synce sources are now built For information on how to continue please visit http://en.opensuse.org/synce So, i try to go to the next step of http://en.opensuse.org/Synce, which is "Connecting your device" and one line reads The script you downloaded earlier now downloads the default kernel source for you distribution and then builds this module. there is no need o do anything but wait here now. So i move on to the next step which is starting ODCCM. And when trying to start ODCCM as root, i get bash: /usr/local/sbin/odccm: No such file or directory So it appears as something went wrong and my guess would be somewhere in the building...... I have passed this issue by installing from source and not using the script at the above link. Now, i get a usb-rndis-lite error: make -C /lib/modules/2.6.22.13-0.3-default/build SUBDIRS=/home/ELECTRICHENDRIX/carnold/Desktop/usb-rndis-lite-0.11 modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.22.13-0.3-obj/i386/default' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. I did not know about http://en.opensuse.org/Synce and worked with old synce.org wiki. With the help from Guido Diepen and Mark Ellis I eventually managed to connect to WM6 device using synce 0.11. Somebody on the list asked me then to send the steps I went through and I posted a kind of "checklist". Now I see it in my mailbox, but strangely not in synce users mail list archive. I'll include it here. Please note that I did not try synchronization tools. My purpose was to just establish IP link. ========== ... I tried to write down what I did so far to install version 0.11 on openSUSE 10.3. Please note that "additional packages" are for my installation. It could happen that others installed these packages already or have different missing dependencies. I used additional indentation for the packages installed automatically by YaST. 1) Compilation and building of usb_rndis_lite-0.11 - You need to install kernel source tree and headers: kernel-source linux-kernel-headers - If you use standard SUSE kernel (have not compiled your own), you need to re-create .config file (SUSE does not provide it): cd /usr/src/linux sudo make cloneconfig - untar usb-rndis-lite-0.11.tar.gz cd usb-rndis-lite-0.11 make sudo ./clean.sh sudo make install 2) Compilation and building of libsynce - additional packages (of course, depends on specific installation): dbus-1-devel dbus-1-glib-devel glib2-devel pcre-devel - untar libsynce-0.11.tar.gz cd libsynce-0.11 ./configure --enable-desktop-integration make sudo make install 3) Compilation and building of librapi2 - additional packages: python-devel python-tk blt-2.4z-301 pyrexc (BTW, configuration indicates that it is not installed but does not fail. make fails after that) - untar librapi2-0.11.tar.gz cd librapi2-0.11 ./configure make sudo make install 4) Compilation and building of odccm - additional packages: gnet gnet-devel hal-devel libusb-devel libext2fs-devel libblkid-devel libuuid-devel libcom_err-devel - untar odccm-0.11.tar.gz cd odccm-0.11 ./configure make sudo make install (no need to copy odccm.conf manually, in 0.11 make install handle it). 5) Compilation and building of synce-gnome - additional packages: python-setuptools dbus-1-python libxml2-python - untar synce-gnome-0.11.tar.gz cd synce-gnome-0.11 sudo python setup.py install ============ Probably it could be used as input for updating openSUSE wiki page. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you. I did not have the kernel-source package installed. Now i can successfully make rndis-lite.
Please note that I did not try synchronization tools. My purpose was to just establish IP link. After all this, i am going to install the GUI that Guido is working on and pray that it works.
I now get a message when i plug in my Q but when running pls, i get: ** (process:7019): WARNING **: No devices connected to odccm pls: Could not find configuration at path '(Default)' I do have odccm started or at least i ran the command su -c "/usr/local/sbin/odccm". I did not use sync-engine, but installed synce-gnome (according to old synce wiki). I ran sudo /usr/local/sbin/odccm -f ... --local-ip ... --device-ip ... -- local-networkmask.... in one terminal window and synce-gnome in another terminal. Now when I connected the device, I saw popup window saying that device is connected. Probably in your case you need to run something from sync-engine. My next problem was that every 10-15 seconds the link was dropped and re-started. I could not say I understood 100% what happens here, but I resolved it by creating ifcfg-... file and defined the interface as hotplug. I tried reading openSUSE wiki page regarding hotplug support, but this page seems obsolete. It looks like everything is handled by udev now. Probably in your case you need to run something from sync-engine. I don't know what to run from sync-engine. The opensuse site doesn't say anything about running something from sync-engine.

I would suggest then to try the same way I did to see whether you get the same result. Download synce-gnome 0.11 from sourceforge, untar it (see 5) in my checklist), run python setup.py install and then run synce-gnome. You whould see the message "Waiting for odccm to start". Then run odccm as you did before and then connect your Mot-Q device.
