Is it correct to say that there is zero chance of a program linked against glibc2.0 working when it is linked against glibc2.1?
No --- almost all glibc2.0 compiled programs will work on a glibc2.1 system. The exceptions are programs which use undocumented features of glibc2.0 that went away.
Whew! That's a relief. I thought I read somewhere that StarOffice broke against glib2.1 (possibly on RHL systems). Am I mistaken or did StarOffice do something naughty?
From what I heard, yes, StarOffice did something naughty -- used an internal glibc2.0 function it was not supposed to know about.
(Or I may have gotten the various commercial Wordprocessors confused with one another -- there are so many now.)
