I've got a friend that wants to install SuSE, but so far he's been unable to find a driver/server for his Epson 850. He's checked SuSE and Epson with no luck. Anyone using an Epson 850 now? What drives it, if so? Any suggestions? TIA andy -- Sandy Seeds 100% Microsoft Free S.u.S.E. I'm using a Epson stylus 800, and could not find a driver for it either, but I did discover that the standard epson driver does work for it:-) Sandy wrote:

I am using an Epson LQ 850. With the old ghostscript 4.xx that is on the SuSE-CD the printing is ... well, only usable if you cat raw text to /dev/lp1. Postscript (and that includes your normal printing, since it is translated to ps by a2ps) going via Ghostscript is hard to read and looks plain ugly. However, there is a newer Ghostscript aviable: Version 5.10. SuSE is not allowed to distribute it via CD IIRC, but the RPM's are aviable from their FTP-Server. See the SDB: /usr/doc/support-db/sdb_e/new_gs.html (New Ghostscript version) and download the correct binary - or the source. Then just configure the printer (with or without YaST), using lq850 as driver. Now you can stun some laser printers (well, not with speed :-) but the quality is good.) -Wolfgang -- PGP 2 welcome: Mail me, subject "send PGP-key".
