RE: [SLE] remastering suse 9.3 DVD
I'm not agree with you, dear Patrick.
We're a open-mind list, one of the most active from the internet and i'm sure that Steve will come back several times to learn that there isn't no list like ours about Ubuntu ( that i like too ).
Actually, Ubuntu does have a good mailing list, and a VERY good Wiki & "how-to" guide. Like I said in my reply to Patrick, I read this list because SuSE has always been a favorite of mine, but the QC process in 9.2 and 9.3 have been lacking, IMHO. It's extremely disheartening to do an update of a "security" update, only to find KDM is borked, and the only way to fix it is to a) backtrack to a previous version of the "bad" package (if you still have it), or hand edit config files to fix the problem. 9.2 had a problem right off the bat with a kernel that crapped out on my laptop. Unless I had a live internet connection during the install and did an online update right away, I had to boot off a recovery CD and manually install the updated kernel. I'll continue trying the new releases of SuSE, but won't start paying for them again until I get one that installs relatively cleanly and survives the first couple updates without blowing up. Steve

No, a better way to say it, is " I had a problem." Not 9.2 had a problem. I had no such problem with any of the updates from SUSE. Either 9.2, or 9.3 (so far). If you think that their qa is a problem, volunteer your expertise. Do you have any idea how many different types of hardware there are out there? Did you file a report with Novell/suse? Fill out everything and send logs, and an example of the problem as YOU see it? Could it be specific to your hardware? These are the types of questions that are so hard. I see it on the list quite a lot. Someone comes along and says that such and such doesn't work. No other statement. Usually the first thing people ask is about the hardware, and even which version they are running. Lots of times folks forget to include that. Silly but true.

That's your choice. I'll respect you for it. What I don't respect is someone coming in and saying I switched because suse blew up. FWIW, Ubuntu will not install on my machine. Hangs every time. But I can install any version of suse that I happen to have without a hitch. And right now I've got all from 7.0 up to 9.3 except for 8.2 which I gave to a friend. I really don't care if the other won't install. It was just an experiment anyway. Wanted to see what everyone was so thrilled about. But I didn't go over to the ubuntu list and let everyone know that I dumped it because it wouldn't install. Nope.. Just set the disk aside and basiclly forgot about it.
