Thanks for the reply. I fixed it. the reason being the Ximian GNOME updated modutils from SuSE7.3 ftp site. I uninstalled and reinstalled modutils from 7.3 pro CD. It worked. anbu http://anbu.freeshell.org

when I try to run $modprobe lt_serial , I get the following mesg.
modprobe: Cant open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.10-4GB/modules.dep (No such file or directory)
I checked the file and found missing, what is this modules.dep file.
Try running depmod -a (as root). I'm not sure, but I think this would be needed.
