[opensuse] Webcam / headset combo recommendation
Hello list, I recently migrated my father's computer from WinME to OpenSuSE 11.0. He would like to use Skype on the new platform. Can you recommend well supported choices for the following hardware: - USB webcam - headset Please note that the computer already has a sound card (can't remember the brand or model) that is recognised and configured. The usual "extra" multimedia packages and codecs are installed. Based on this, would you recommend to use a headset that plugs in the soundcard jacks or a USB one ? Any and all pointers appreciated. TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph. I use and recommend the Logitech USB headsets. they work out of the box with Linux and are crystal clear. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 webcam. It runs quite well and the quality is very good. It includes a mic. Running on my openSUSE 11.0 out of the box. I don't use a headset, I only use my internal laptop speakers. regards, medwinz -- Zsa Zsa Gabor - "I'm a great housekeeper. I get divorced. Logitech are great (but not all of them). I use the Orbit-AF that has motor controls that allows you to tilt and pan the camera. The optics are high quality. 3. This link is for opensuse 10.3 but give a link where to find the logitech that will work. The information is accurate also for 11 and 11.1 with the exception of the changes produced by udev that affect the motor controls. You just have to change a line and everything is working great. The info is in that forum http://forums.quickcamteam.net/showthread.php?tid=212 -=terry=- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Can you please explain what you mean by the above ? I understood "uvc" to be a kernel module needed for video support. What card are you referring to in this context ? TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph. I bought a Logitech USB Headset 250 while using 10.2. It worked great. When I upgraded to 11.0, I had to adjust the Skype settings because it wasn't using the headset for any sounds. Now I notice possibly more sensitivity to background noise (e.g. TV or sniffles) than before, but otherwise it works just great. -- "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Along the same line of inquiry, has anyone used a bluetooth jawbone device for skype? I would buy one but $130 is a lot to chuck for something that "might" work... wcn Felix Miata wrote:
