[opensuse] IPv6 RDNSS not working 15.0
I just tried an experiment by turning off the DHCP server on my firewall. This means that DNS info can only be obtained by RDNSS in the router advertisement. With OpenSUSE, while I get an address and domain name, I do not get a DNS server address. With the same computer, running Windows 10, I get a DNS server and host name lookup works fine. RDNSS also works on my Android tablet. Why not on OpenSUSE? Wireshark shows RDNSS is providing the relevant info. tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Forgot to mention, this is with KDE network manager. On 10/23/2018 04:46 PM, James Knott wrote:

FWIW, it works here, with wicked. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.5°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As I suspect, the problem is in network manager. I use it on my notebook computer, where I have several configurations for different networks. My desktop system uses wicked, but it also has a static configuration, so DNS is manually configured. I guess I'll have to file a bug report. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

One other thing I noticed is while RDNSS appears to work when tethered to my Android phone, the search domain does not change. It continues to display the domain name for my home network. However, the RA from the phone does not specify a search domain, which raises the question of why resolv.conf lists one that's not valid. Both the phone and pfSense firewall provide ICMPv6 option 25, for DNS server, but only pfSense provides option 31 for search domain. IPv4 DHCP from the phone also does not provide a search domain -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

On my systems, the resolv.conf search list is a combined list of entries from dhcpv4 and RDNSS/dhcpv6.
IPv4 DHCP from the phone also does not provide a search domain
Oh well. I'm guessing you see the most recent entry? I mean, it's not just some random text. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had DHCPv4 disabled, to prevent that from happening.

Well, then it's using something that's invalid. It should either be relevant or removed. I believe the contents of resolv.conf are regenerated on each connection, why should an old name remain, when the DNS address don't? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
