[S.u.S.E. Linux] Deny telnetconnections for defined hosts
Hello Is there a possibility to deny telnetconnections for a list of hosts ? And if so could this be done with ftp too ?? -- Regards Marius Augenstein -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GCM/E/TW d- s-:- a-- C++ UL/O++++ P+ L+++ E--- W+ N K- w O- V PS+ PE+ PGP t+ 5+ X+ R+ tv+ b+ DI D+ G e++ h r++ ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I put "ALL : ALL" in /etc/hosts.deny so that all connections to my box are refused. I'm sure you can state specific hosts to be denied so that other hosts are allowed. I haven't needed to allow any outside hosts on my box so I haven't played with it. Marius Augenstein wrote:

Or you could comment out the telnet line in /etc/inetd.conf (line 29 in mine). Then issue a 'killall HUP inetd' to make it active. You might also think about doing this for ftp as it's a potential security hole. -- WWW: <A HREF="http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~cbebber"><A HREF="http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~cbebber</A">http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~cbebber</A</A>> PGP: 768/2F9B4879 35 93 D1 42 D0 45 44 CB E7 8F 64 37 FB FD 54 5C It's not that I'm afraid to die. Can be done thru entries in /etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow, for details reference the man pages. -- Arun Khan -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
