[SuSE Linux] SO 5 versus applix and soon wp8
I am interested in losing my NT partition and reclaiming that 6 gigs for something else. Dont quite know what yet... It seems that SO 5 has some issues regarding installation and I did order it on cd. I also have ordered corel wp 8 and after using sdcorps wp before, I must say that wp may be the one I end up with. It just seems polished and well done. I like applix at a functional level. applix seems to say, "give me work to do and I can do it". Can someone using StarOffice 5 post some basic comments about its function with regard to importing office 97 blech files especially excel blech and word blech? I dont care so much about powerpoint blech but it would be nice to know that it does that. I have a word97 documents which is 3mb in size that applix 4.4.1 chokes on. Want to do a little experiment? If you have SO 5 and want to try importing this file, I will shove it to my anon ftp server at work and you can have at it. If you have the adabas D documentation in word format, try reading the apeng.doc for import. Subjective comments welcome. Objective reviews accepted also. Bitches and complaints carefully recorded. :) Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I have tried SO5 with excel 97 files, and had no problems reading them (have not tried modifying them and reading them back into excel yet). I'm not sure about the word 97 file compatibility, but I think it lost some of the formatting when importing word97 documents... - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Me neither :(. I got some disk real estate fairly cryin' to get eaten up. I also ordered xesslite 4.0 from ais and am waiting impatiently for corel wp 8 to be released. There also is a cad program I want called linuxcad. This will be what gets me off NT. A small cost for the freedom of deciding what I want to run and not have some other entity decide. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
