I'm not expert, but I'll give this a try.... Ok, are you using SuSE 8.0 as both the server and as the client? Or is the client on a second machine? (Basically, I'm trying to determine if the client environment changed or if it was just the server that changed.) Which IMAP server are you using? The Washington University or the Cyrus (Carnegie Mellon University) version? Have you changed filesystem types when you installed SuSE? (I think that RedHat uses ext2 (or ext3?) by default, and SuSE typically will use ReiserFS by default). When I installed my Cyrus IMAP server, I remember reading about some special steps for the ext2fs and I think it had something to do with setting extended attributes which I think was used for file locks. (there are a number of "i think"s in there...I could be way off here..., but it might be something to look into.) Have you compared you old configuration files to you new ones? Is there any options for mailbox/folder locking? Its possible that the two distros compiled the IMAP server with different options, or applied special patches. You may want to install the source rpms and look at the .spec files for different configuration options. Hope that helps, let me know how it turns out, Lowell Alleman lowella@mfps.com

I'm having problems with SuSE that never happened with Red Hat. I'm starting to be annoyed.
So what if it's a negative way to start a message.
The imap server does a sucky thing.
I use mozilla to read IMAP mail, and I have a lot of folders (actually files on server). This setting works perfectly with Red Hat or Slackware.
Now, with SuSE, the email client connects, I can look into a folder, and another, then dies "Cannot connect to IMAP server". In the server logs I see "Killed, lost mailbox lock".
The only thing that solves it is to specify in Mozilla / Advanced IMAP server properties "Number of cached connections" 1. Default is 5, and that works fine with a Red Hat 7.1 server or Slackware 7.
The Red Hat server has the same version of imap (2001a) as the SuSE server.
So, WTF is wrong with SuSE?
Sorry for the bitterness, but wasting time with this thing pisses me off greatly. I'm staying way overtime at work for this crap, and I would like to go home to my wife now.
So if anyone has a clue, thanks a million, you're a g0d and everything :-)
