[setup] 4 IDE ATA-100 disks 2 Promise Ultra100 Tx2 IDE controller cards (not raid cards). lite-on DVD-ROM drive suse 8.1 using yast to setup clean minimal system. Mainboard: IDE 0 - connected to DVD-ROM IDE 1 - not used Promise Card 1: disk 1 - /dev/hde disk 2 - /dev/hdg Promise Card 2: disk 3 - /dev/hdi disk 4 - /dev/hdk Notes: All disks jumpers set to use cable detection meaning all disks are master drives on their own controller. connected in master/slave config to mainboard controllers the disks will partition and format fine. any drive of the four put on /dev/hdg hangs at partition time. happens on both controller cards. all cables test good. Does anyone know why /dev/hdg won't partition when all the others will?
