[opensuse] mismatched drivers for nvidia card
I tried the nvidia forums first and received no reply. I recently bought an EVGA e-GeForce 6200 video card (best I could do with AGP). My old one was a 5500 and I used the G01 drivers from the nvidia repository. I figured that this 6200 would use the G02, but it doesn't. It works with the 1.73 legacy drivers, but not the newer 1.80 drivers. I've heard there's a big difference in performance and I'd like to see that. Anyone know why my card isn't conforming? To be honest, if I could find a better AGP card, that's what I'd do - this one has a problem with 80x25 text modes, too. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.16/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.16-pkg0.run should give you much better experience. I updated yesterday and now I'm using KDE4, which was not pleasant experience for quite some time. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a GeForce 6200 TurboCache and it uses the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180.22-pkg2.run and normally uses the G02 drivers but I couldn't get the rpm driver to work. I already had the run package so I just installed that. It's definitely not a legacy card. As far as performance is concerned it runs Oblivion The Elder Scrolls under wine reasonably efficiently and gets 1600+ fps under glx gears and runs GL-117 flight simulator very well. I'm running 64 bit os 11.1 but this was the case with 32 bit system too. Visit http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us to find the correct driver version for your card.
