Re: [opensuse] Evolution vs. Thunderbird
Hi, I wasn't aiming to praise or flame either email client. I just wanted to know some opinions from you out there as Evolution is something "new" to me, from the user's perspective. The biggest hassle I've found so far is: how to import Thunderbird emails (and I mean: the whole email structure, including folders and subfolders), filtering rules etc. My first approach, you may laugh if you want, was to manually open each MH file under $HOME/.thunderbird/some-default-profile/Mail/Local Folders/filename and import it under Evolution as I don't see any "Export to..." tool in Thunderbird and Evolution won't import so easily ... also creating the proper destination folders structure when needed.... hmmm, maybe there's a fancy tool for that?? :-/ Well... I'll just keep an eye open on both mailers (don't bother to mention Sylpheed ;-) ) for a couple of days as I need to convince myself... although "abandoning" Thunderbird would be rather painful due to the years I've been using it... jeez... :-))) Thanks and regards, Martin ----- Original Message ---- From: Michael Folsom <mwfolsom@gmail.com> To: OpenSuSE <opensuse@opensuse.org> Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2007 3:09:48 PM Subject: Re: [opensuse] Evolution vs. Thunderbird Folks: Hate to break the chain of praise for Evolution but frankly I left it and went back to Thunderbird because it is so incredibly slow. It take a long time to open up when tied to a Exchange server but who knows who is to blame for that but it also is sluggish when connected to a pop server - Thunderbird is fast. Hi all,
far from wanting another "religious war"... is it me or is Evolution more feature-rich than Thunderbird?
Maybe, but then again, there might be some situations where you don't want all those features. The IMAP is intriguing though. I set up my AIM account with Evolution and will give it a spin, but I think I'll stay with Thunderbird, if only for my own irrational reasons (integration with GMail + I've been with it so long). It never spells a good thing when all the world chooses only one software; makes it too easy for script kiddies and such. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
