I installed the 64bit Leap 42.1 and when it rebooted and presented the login screen my password failed. I was able to get into the terminal mode (ALT-F1) and I could login as user and root. Ok, so those two sentences contradict each other.
Your password didn't fail if you were able to log in at a terminal.
It may be that the X server refused to start, which may be due to a proprietary video driver. (Most likely the case if its Nvidia).

It is not really a contradiction. The password is valid under the basic Linux system but does not let me login to the graphical mode. So can anyone help provide a solution. The video card is Nvidia. Whatever video driver is being use would have be from the opensuse dvd. I don't know how it could be using a proprietary driver. I don't think it a password expiring since it is a fresh install a few hours old. I would be willing to change the login to KDM if someone can tell me how. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Before trying, does anything change if you select some other session type? e.g. icewm 1-install KDM. 2-DISPLAYMANAGER= in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager designates the DM. I don't know how to make it effective without a reboot. YaST's sysconfig editor should be able to do it, but I've never tried that way. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I don't think it a password expiring since it is a fresh install a few hours old. If the machine date was 1970 post install? :o)
I would be willing to change the login to KDM if someone can tell me how.
