a) Have you tried the ALSA Project? The ALSA Project has support for a suprisingly wide range of hardware, including lots of ESS chipsets. With the alsaconf script, you may be able to `auto-detect' a proper module for your sound chipset. b) AFAIK, Toshiba sells almost exclusively WinModems. In other words: buy a new modem. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
When did they start that? My 2515 came with a real one and I was under the impression that they would always do so. Mine came with a 3com (yuc) noteworthy 3cxmo56-bnw. I was not able to find it at 3com, but it does work. Jon Pennington wrote:

I can't speak for the modem, but I have a Toshiba Laptop also, Satelite 410. The ESS soundcard that is built in worked under SuSE 6.1 using OSS, but something changed in the newer OSS drivers because now they won't work under 6.2. - and yes I downloaded the new ones not the old drivers from 6.1. I got the right driver for my kernel, but it wont run on my laptop either. I would assume I was doing something wrong, but I did it the same way in 6.1. My point anyway is that the ESS drivers seem to have a problem in the newer versions. If anyone knows how to fix it please correct me. I tried ALSA also and I won't even comment on that. . .lets just say I didn't like their product or the install process. I simply came to the conclusion that sound wasn't that important on my laptop, though it would be nice. :-) -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R.
