[opensuse] 11.0 and new behavior of kdesu
Hi, on 10.3, after proper configuring of sudo, kdesu used sudo to launch programs as root (i.e. I could use my user's password). In 11.0 this changed back to asking always the root password. How can I get the old behavior? I understand in 11.0 kdesu does not use sudo, it uses the su mechanism. So, you can not modify it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. And it is useless. Can't even YaST to start even after supplying the password. Time to file a bug report if not already filed. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There's multiple bugs filed for this. Are you sure you did not accidentally click on "Remember Password"? -- Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For me yast works (providing the root password), but it doesn't matter if I check "Remember password" or not, it always asks :( I was so happy with the improvements in the zypper, and now this annoyance. Btw, this is very strange (kdesu not using sudo), as on 10.3 I was using the community, backports and the "non-oficial" kde3 repositories, and I had at least the same version of kde, and there it was working properly. So, it looks like this modification was done on purpose for 11.0 only :( -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks
Sunny, It is driving me crazy too, but it isn't limited to 11.0. I have 3 10.3 machines, all worked perfectly with sudo, never a password prompt for yast or kde control center administrative mode, etc. Now for some strange reason 2 out of 3 are pestering me for a password. Nothing changed but updates. I posted about this behavior recently, but I don't believe I ever received an answer. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
