I have recently updated several of my gnome apps. Now that I have done so, the fonts are all tiny on the apps (evolution, gftp) and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix them. KDE is running just fine. I run a 1280 x 1024 resolution. I am a KDE user and have not had any luck with gnomecc or otherwise. Any advise on how to fix this? -- "Turd Ferguson. If your using ulb packages then they are compiled using GTK2 and the fonts are controlled with the gnome-control-center. You can start that up and fix up your fonts. If you want to keep them nice then I would suggest running the gnome-settings-daemon as well. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
This doesn't answer anything you asked, but I just had the same problem last week. Are you aware that most gnome applications' preferences are set in gconf-editor? Also, I have the gnome-settings-daemon run when I start fvwm2, but you could do the same in your .xinitrc or kde init file. The problem I haven't been able to solve when starting that daemon is that it insists on using the wallpaper you set in the gnome config, obliterating whatever your window own manager puts there. If anyone has a solution, I'd like to hear it. On Thu, 2003-07-31 at 00:06, Turd Ferguson wrote:

Noticed: After restart the computer, the settings I previously set in gnome-config-panel are lost. I like the solution below, but the wallpaper problem is unacceptable. Any solutions? </Jared> On Thu, 2003-07-31 at 22:34, Timothy Hanson wrote:

Ok. This must be a funky interaction with fvwm2 or something because I've got the gnome-settings-daemon running at home and at work. I'm using KDE 3.1.3 and it preforms as James suggested. And my wallpaper has been the same for 6 months...never changed. The only problem I had was fixed when Anders hipped me to gconf-editor to turn of Xscreensaver. Other then that I've had absolutely no issue..and I'm not special. It's got to be the interaction between fvwm2 and the gnome-settings-daemon. Maybe when James wakes up he'll weigh in on this. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

I've been awake for about 20 minutes, so this may not make sense... ;-) Hmmm, FVWM2 eh? Blimey, blast from the past, not used that in years. OK, thoughts, and bear in mind I don't know if these will work or not... Try setting the GConf key /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop to off Run gnome-background-properties and use it to set the Gnome background to whatever you have set in FVWM2. I'll think it over while I'm driving to work, and post again if I think of anything... *yawn* I'm off to get coffee and toast... -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). Try setting the GConf key /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop to off Run gnome-background-properties and use it to set the Gnome background to whatever you have set in FVWM2.
I decided to test it out before I went (I'm now in the default FVWM2 setup - funky) OK, I have a solution, and this applies to anyone who has experienced the same thing under KDE I reckon... Set the following GConf key to off in gconf-editor: /desktop/gnome/background/draw_background And that should sort it - it certainly did for me. That did the trick all right. Thanks for finding it. On Fri, 2003-08-01 at 00:02, James Ogley wrote:

It's around, supported, as fast as ever, and supports gnome apps, mostly, except for this glitch.

Nope. I did that when nautilus insisted on drawing the desktop and it worked for that.

I don't have anything set up in fvwm2. What I was doing from .fvwm2rc was running xphoon which isn't a wallpaper but a program for a real time moon picture. xphoon loads fine, but several seconds later gets overlaid by my gnome wallpaper, or of no wallpaper the gnome color choice. I tried to delay the running of xphoon but the wallpaper display is delayed even further.
I'll think it over while I'm driving to work, and post again if I think of anything...
