[SLE] ATI Radion driver in SuSE 10.1

Hi everybody. I've noticed that the Radion driver used in SuSE 10.1 is not nearly as effective on my Thinkpad T41 as the one which was included in SuSE 10.0. GoogleEarth is slow in 10.1 compared to 10.0 I enabled 3D in Sax2, but without discernable effect. I wonder if I'm being forced to use Mesa emulation. Does anyone have any idea how I might improve performance. If it matters, the video is an ATI Radion RV250 Lf aTdHvAaNnKcSe -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK - IGNORE FULLWISE -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Which actual card or notebook chipset is it? Some of the Mobility Radeon X1300 cards or higher seem to have driver issues. Did you do the auto install or compile for the kernel option? I assume that you are using the proprietary driver that does not ship with 10.1. The proprietary driver did ship with 10.0. If you are not using the proprietary driver from ATI that is most likely the problem. Ralph Ellis

In the case of both 10.0 and 10.1, I just did a standard install. I wasn't aware that there was a proprietary driver. I'll get the proprietary driver off of ATI's website and see if that helps - thanks for the advice. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK - IGNORE FULLWISE -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
