Does it make sense to set a swap space size equal to the memory size, even if we've got 4 Gb of RAM ? Thanks for your help Regards Pascal MiQUET

Why have you got 4GB of RAM otherwise. Apparently because you need it. If you could you with 64 MB you wouldn't buy that much right? And if you need *that* much, you naturaly have a chance of running out. Depending on the type of usage characteristics of the server you may choose from 0.2 to 5 times the amount of RAM as swap space. Although I bet there are several articles/postings floating around on the net of sysadmins who have shared their experience in writing, in my opinion it is best to try, then collect statistics, and re-run this until you are happy with the configuration. I read somewhere fairly recently of someone saying that there is a performance penalty for swap > 2 * RAM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Karns jkarns@csd.net
