Any drive will work. It's the decoder card which is problematic... The Dxr2 works perfectly, while the Dxr3 is still being worked on...

If you want a freeware player check out http://www.opendvd.org which has a tarball of the lindvd player...

Any DVD drive can be used the same as a CD-ROM though the top read speed on the fastest DVD is 40X. My advise is that unless you also run Windows (where you can view dvds) is for the time being to stick with a CD-ROM drive.

I'd have to disagree. I've been watching DVDs on Linux for over 6 months now! Also the benefits of the Gb of storage are impressive. Installing SuSE off a single disc is very useful Rik.
