http://www.securityfocus.com/ I went out and looked at the site... Though I did not spend a lot of time... (will do that later this evening). They seem to provide for a wide range of OS's and seem to be neutral in relation to any one OS. All in all... the stats that Moody quotes are there for your inspection.... Seems to have lots of good information for security minded people. -- Kirk Moore EPM - Release Management environments - STL's 425-965-6543 (desk) 425-797-9092 (pager) Black holes are created when God divides by zero!

Re the article attacking Linux as unreliable and buggy: the article cites BugTrak as the source. Rather than issuing ad hominem attacks on the author of the article, I think it would be more productive if someone could actually look at the BugTrak data and see what it says and what might be wrong with it. Is BugTrak an unbiased source? I really don't know.

I don't think that's in question, but Moody seems to have lumped all the bug reports that were stated about various Linux distributions together. I think this is what people are having issues with because some bugs effect Redhat yet not SuSE or TurboLinux. It was a blanket statement against Linux in general and his math was just a bit off. * EXT-Moore, Kirk W (Kirk.Moore@PSS.Boeing.com) [000803 17:09]:

I also use this list as an information source. While not in a commercial sense, (since I became a full-time teacher), I still have to continually put up arguments as to why our Linux Lab should be allowed access to the college network. The general hysteria seems to be that if we use Linux on the state-wide net, we may corrupt something (they haven't yet come up with a definition of 'something'). When I tell them that the mail server for the state runs on Solaris, all I get is a blank look! When this sort of FUD is perpetuated, it can only do all of us some(?) harm. Real decision-making people in my workplace use sources like that to make decisions that affect me and my students. I say; Thanks for the 'heads-up', at least I now know what they are talking about, and have some positive things to reply with! Last time I looked, this list wasn't called the 'suse-e-trouble-shooting-only-or-you-get-horsewhipped' list. -- This Email is 100% Virus Free! How do I know?
