Anybody using Power Chute for SuSE?? I notice APC has a Linux SuSE version online.....downloading now....wondering if anybody has run it. Cheers Rich
I tried an earlier version but they only had the Red Hat version and gave up trying to install it. Please let me know how you get on with this version. Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------- On 22-Jun-2001 Internet Niue wrote:

Welp, so far so good.....but what I was wanting was to monitor the UPS units that are already on the network.....like we do with the W2K machines...and the install won't let me do anything other than install the Powerchute as if I want to monitor a UPS that's connected to *that* machine. But I'll keep playing with it. Cheers Rich

To monitor other UPSs, you have to have one connected to your machine. Stupid trick, yes, but that's how it works... :| -tosi Þann laugardagur 23 júní 2001 17:49 skrifaðir þú:

Bummer!! But hey, that saved me a bunch of time. Thanks for that. I was hoping to install the client and be able to see all the UPSes on the network.....like we do with the W2000 version. Oh well. Maybe the next release! ;-) Cheers Rich

Well AFAIK you should be able to communicate via snmp. MGE has the software on their site for both lan and single -- Togan Muftuoglu
Now there's a thought.....in fact the guys who do MRTG have some modules for that I think. Hmmm. Lemme think about that a little. Thanks! Rich

That only works if you have purchased the optional SNMP module. That of course goes only for the APCs others may vary. Also, if you have 1K4 or 2K2 APC UPSs, and want serial communication to _two_ hosts, or thermomonitor, then SNMP is not an option... Don't know about SuSE yet. I do have APC support running for two RH machines. Was going to try SuSE next. One messy thing to watch out for. Smart cables work fine if you are only using the built in control port. However, if you are intending to use an expander module in a SMART-UPS, then make sure you get the 'Unix' cable. (AP9823) You cannot use either of the normally available Smart (940-0024) or Simple (940-0020) signaling cables. (This means dual-boot machines cannot have UPS support in both OS's.) I've got some extra Smart cables for sale. ;-) Mark -----Original Message----- From: Internet Niue [mailto:stclair@niue.nu] Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 4:34 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Power Chute for SuSE Anybody using Power Chute for SuSE??
