[SuSE Linux] Limit to the maximum number of files that can be opened?
I am having trouble with an application that we recently ported to suse linux. We are getting errors when running reports that open more that 24-28 database files. We are using Faircom Ctree local database. It does not seem to be a database problem but a file limit problem. Is there a way to specify the maximum number of files that can be opened at a system or user level. We use other unix flavors also that we have had to do this to but I am at a loss as for where to start in linux(having already checked the kernel and yast and other files in the /etc dir). Any suggestions? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

As long as they are not winmodems, they should work quite well. "Jayel L. Villamin" wrote:

Take a look at the apache manual. This is not a uncommon problem with programs that require a lot of open files. <A HREF="http://www.theverge.com/unix/apache/manual/vhosts/fd-limits.html</A">http://www.theverge.com/unix/apache/manual/vhosts/fd-limits.html</A> there is a link at the bottem for more details and on that page there is a link to a site that may have a kernel patch. I hope this helps.
