That was the claim. I know what IRC can do. Others don't. Other IM platforms, such as Telegram, do, which is an advantage over IRC. And more recent implementations of IRC, with more modern servers, also can do it. And having a public server holding the log of everyday, can. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I have never used Konversation so I opened it up. The only thing I see that needs configuration might be IRC channels you want to visit. Yeah, well it's always up to them if they want to come where the power users and developers are, or if they want to send animated gifs on discord between each other :) Personally, the day IRC stops being the official for *SUSE is the day i stop supporting them. I don't like forums (although i respect them much more than any discord/telegram/whatsapp/facebook/onlyfans/whatever :D and i really do not see in what regard are forums outdated - do they need more colors or what?) and i am not a daily ML reader, although lately i am more active on ML than before. When user tries to dictate maintainer where he should communicate with users, i guess the problem he is having is not that important for him. Regards, Gryffus

https://www.google.com/search?q=irc+bouncer https://www.google.com/search?q=quassel but all of that requires some setting-up and you have already denied anything like that. Anyway, imagine you come to a pub and sit to a table where your friends are, discussing something. You just sit there, listen and say something when you have something to say. Isn't that natural? Do you also need to know everything they were talking about, before you joined them? No. Can you ask them anything that comes to your mind? Absolutely yes!! :) Do you ask your friends a question and just get up and leave, without saying anything more? I think not! :) IRC is just the same. You just join in and chit-chat. IRC is just one big never-ending party! :) And IRC bouncers are only for the freaks who need/want to party 24/4 every day! :) Some parties, like #ubuntu are more public and logged on the Internet, i guess public logging would be possible for *suse* channels too, but just why do it? Also, bridges to other messengers work a little like a loggers too, if you really need it, you can check there, but I, personally like to party when I want and when I have time for it, and I do not need to know what happened at party before I came. If _you_ so desperately need to party 24/7 and to know what happened when you were not there, there are ways for sure, even free ones. But you must certainly _do something for it_ That's just it :) Regards, Gryffus

Although it may look like a chit-chat system, it can be used in different ways. In fact, I think IRC is mostly used by developers for development and support. We have been using IRC (our own IRC server) as a work tool since the late 90's (1998 if I am not mistaken). The IRC log is quite important to us. We have from time to time been scattered in different time zones. Right now we have two employees who live on a boat and during the past year have been in all time zones. Reading IRC logs is what makes it alive and connected. Admittedly, there has been development in the chit-chat industry, but hey, if it works why fix it. -- /bengan
