Somebody was talking about transferring vinyl to digital format the other day and I got to thinking. Call me nostalgic, but the my inlaws still have copies of the records that I loved when I was little (they keep *everything*), and they're still in better-than-playable condition. A few days and some fm.net searches later, I found this little gem: GramoFile http://freshmeat.net/appindex/2000/03/29/954323422.html GramoFile is intended primarily for transferring gramophone records to CDs, but has many other possible uses. It can record very long .wav files with a bargraph signal peak-level meter, playback any part of the files, split long .wav files into separate tracks (with automatic track location), and process the signal with filters to reduce ticks and pops (multiple filters are provided, they can be applied in any order (multiple instances) with user-adjustable parameters). Track splitting and signal processing are done in the same run, and don't need any temporary files. Cool, huh? :] -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?" Whow! Jon, this is sort of tool I was looking for. Heared the unfiltered and filtered sample from the hompage. quite a difference. Program compiled well and works for a quick test. Sadly / oddly I need a way to use the line in on my sound card and not the micro in. Want to avoid to solder resistors to cut the signal down (and amplify it again on the card). The software looks good and the rest comes back to hardware. Thanks for looking. You're right about vinyl, I did resist a long time to CD, but find it more handy. Got some records that are hard to get on CD, if ever.
