Help, I had my case open shuffling some disks around. Now it won't even bring up LILO. I get a totally black screen I can boot off the CD and to go into rescue mode.
From rescue mode, I can mount my '/' partition, so the drive itself is healthy. I also did a fdisk /dev/hda and it looked correct to me.
How do I go about restoring my boot sector, or wherever it is that LILO lives? PS: I'm done for the day, so I won't be responding until tomorrow. If you can boot into a rescue disk and mount the drive, go to the root of that drive and "chroot ." You'll now be able to access the drive as semi-normal. From there, you can re-run lilo to put your MBR back to normal. Hope this Helps! Donavan Pantke

Been waiting a while to use that one, huh? ;-) Harry G On Mon September 9 2002 6:31 pm, dep wrote:

Depending on what you actually lost by swapping disks around, you may need to reinstall the lilo.rpm to get the boot.b files back, and you may need to reinstall the kernel. Barring that, just boot from the rescue disk, choose "boot installed system, and run " lilo". If no errors are reported, you are done. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
