How do you make Konquerer always prompt me for where it wants to download a file? I've looked all over the options and don't see it. I know I can right click and do a "copy to" but this does not work for some things like some image buttons that are links. For example I want to download opera using Konq and I can't seem to simply save any of the files from this page without it automatically starting to save to some tmp directory. What am I doing wrong? The page I'm trying to download from is here: http://www.opera.com/download/ Thanks, -- Rick

-- Hi Reumann As a newbie I thought about that two when downloading Mozilla 2.1 Here is how i as a newbie did it. After letting Kong do his download thing I closed down and went to the location where the file was downloaded (Most of the time it will tell you were it will be download to.) Then I just right clicked on the file and click on move it to. Then looked for the directory that I wanted it in. Before you do all of the above think of what directory you want it in. If there is no directory you do not want it in make one with right click and new. This is only a newbie suggestion. The pros can give you a more better and technical way to do it. Thanks Robinson. I appreciate the help. Actually I knew I could go to the temp directory to get the file but this is just horrible UI behavior IMO for such a well developed browser. Konqueror is a very nice browser but it seems to be lacking in it's ability to be customized. With Opera you can can customize so much yet in Konq the options seem so limited. At the very least you should be able to suggest to "always be prompted" for where you want to download a file. Using Linux shouldn't be a less productive endeavor than using Windows but having files automatically download to a directory and then having to go to that directory and manually move them somewhere else is a lot of wasted steps in my opinion. (Granted for a lot of links just right clicking on the link works but this also will not work for a lot of image type and javascript links ). -- Rick

Thanks to Anders' help he showed me the solution to this. What you need to do is in Konquorer go up to: Settings--configure konquorer--file associations Then in file associations choose the file type that is opening up automatically in the File manager without prompting you. Like for me it was *.rpm. So you go in the file associations under applications and look for x-rpm and select it. Then highlight the "File Manager" that you see in the application preference order and click on "remove" then apply and then next time you go to get an rpm file you'll be prompted what you want to do with it. You probably can even set this type of behavior for all files if you wanted by messing with the first file association "all files" but until I get used to some things I'll just stick to manually changing the ones I want. Hope that helps others. Thanks Anders! -- Rick
