[opensuse] Install OS Tumbleweed to thumbdrive NOT live
Hey all, Since I have a really stable 13.1, but I want try out tumbleweed and plasma 5 I am looking for some help. This is NOT a live dvd. I can put that on the flash drive and boot from it. What I can't do is install programs to it and have them persist. I want to install a full version so I can try and run all the programs that I need to have. I have tried making bootable drive using rufus and and even manually, but no go. When I try and use the install disk about 100 programs won't install and it won't write the boot loader. Just to throw a wrinkle in, I have a UEFI computer. so I want that to work as well The TW is Snapshot20150508 Thanks -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes _.._ _ ."\__/"./`_\ _/__<__>__\/ jgs `"/_/""""\_\\ Adolph & Sharon Weidanz PADI MSDT/OWSI 283315 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That might be the way I go, as I haven't found anything else. I seem to remember a few years ago (maybe 11.1 timeframe) I did it because I wanted to boot a system without using the hard drive, but I can't fin it now. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes _.._ _ ."\__/"./`_\ _/__<__>__\/ jgs `"/_/""""\_\\ Adolph & Sharon Weidanz PADI MSDT/OWSI 283315 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You can build an image with kiwi and then dump it to the stick. http://doc.opensuse.org/projects/kiwi/doc/#idm140253198483632 HTH, Robert - -- Robert Schweikert MAY THE SOURCE BE WITH YOU Public Cloud Architect LINUX rjschwei@suse.com IRC: robjo -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJVUoCNAAoJEE4FgL32d2UkV6EH/iSVQsRZ4HmwIlTcHwiesD7U fD3DBT9+g1d9kGkTHLXLxahzAu61U6PaIX4pV63bror/GwGR2+LNCGsIbc1gRlNs D43q2MM+GekU0tO84+DINlMSWE/c0SW5dGvOcZ6U8bwpvysRy53ZF9UUTLR6W9z3 3MrYFk5gq3LnHAh1gNgJ1HkTOPnRig8C2uC2dV+E/5n4FyL5XQSA91d8P9lVf1u5 2Bd7tBFYWvrLQE8LWEoat166dpl3r/G0W34R6fiSeJhrQ4X/nX83YrDara7GUfpg pyuTMWKBCKgoighOyVX9UPM73AXPNM2LudWQbBVIlNRxeQNDj6BbCm+Oncvi2yU= =V36F -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That looks like it would work with a live img, but not sure how I would an insttall and then make an img to the thumbdrive. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes _.._ _ ."\__/"./`_\ _/__<__>__\/ jgs `"/_/""""\_\\ Adolph & Sharon Weidanz PADI MSDT/OWSI 283315 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hey all,
You /just/ install to the target device, which happens to be a thumbdrive. You have to be careful about what boot device and boot options it chooses; if you are not convinced, change them or abort.

That's a complication I don't know how to handle. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
