Yepp, it will be a 2.4.2X kernel, but 9.0 will be prepared to also run a 2.6 kernel (mostly modutils that need to be tuned to work with both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels).
So, it's going to be 9.0 ,not 8.3 then? -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org

Well, to tow the party line, when it's done (which assuridly is not the answer your looking for). To be honest I just print out back traces and write reports about it. Last one, 8.2 went fairly quickly. But have a suspicion that they are going to take more time with this version. It will default to the 2.4.21 kernel but be 2.6 ready (at least to some extent). I have a another suspicion that this "may" be similar to 7.1 wherein the default was 2.2 and 2.4 ready. You could install 2.4 but it was the first release of the newer kernel series so they also include the stable 2.2.x LIke I said It maybe similar with 2.4/2.6 scenario. Defaults to 2.4.21 with 2.6 install option. Frankly the jury is still out and as yet undecided. I know most are anxious for the 2.6 and all the changes. But personally I would rather wait a bit if the case is such in order to have more polish. I mean, why rush. I am extremely excited about the changes in the new kernel but I hate bugs. So, I for one can wait if need be. I'm sure this will be clearer in time.
