[opensuse] Where has the graphics card and monitor adjustment icon in YaST gone?
Greetings All, My "Graphics card and Monitor" icon in YaST appears to have disappeared on me since about 2-3 weeks ago and I am unable to figure out how to get it back. I have not changed anything significantly on my system, just the usual YaST Online Updates. I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2 with KDE and while I can still run sax2 manually, any help with restoring that "Graphics Card & Monitor" option would be highly appreciated. I run an old ATI card and setting the Xorg parameters from there was really great for me. Thanks, -hyla -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It sounds strange. AFAIK openSUSE 11.2 YaST never had "Graphics card and Monitor" icon. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It did/does if you start up the desktop applet KRandrTray. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I have running krandrtray (it is located in my system tray). Still I can't find "Graphics card and Monitor" icon in YaST control center. In which group should it be? Am I missing a yast package? Or KDE3 can be the reason? Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think it was a KDE3 thing. Its really daft not having all the config programs in one place. System Settings should have one icon for screen that allows access to all screen related items as most non-tech users know "screen" for everything related to what they see on the monitor. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's why KDE4's systemsettings do have a section in the screen module where you can set the resolution etc. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sven Just a guess:
I am normally running GNOME but as I recall this icon just started SaX2 (with the register monitor/graphic card preselected). So a disappearing of this icon in the graphical Yast may be connected to the dropping of Sax2 in general (at least form 11.3 on). See in openFATE: https://features.opensuse.org/308152 https://features.opensuse.org/308357 On the forums: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/applications/432771-dont-se... and in a copy of a mail to a mailing list (?)

It is from 11.2 (I don't have it) but that is probably the reason that update removed it. But in my fully updated 11.3 I have sax2-tool installed which should according to the info do sax2. I could not have it running though. It is version 8.1-596.4-i585 coming from opensuse-11.3.11.3-1.71 repository. No idea why it does not show up in e.g.konsole. It is probably only by request from users, but it is not maintained, so we have to wait until someone pick up maintenance to see it actually running :) -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Maybe there is help or a way to help on this wiki page: http://wiki.opensuse.org/SDB:Sax2 ? Greetings pistazienfresser P.S.: wiki-question: For this page: namespace SDB or namespace opensuse because not more 'officially' maintained? -- - openSUSE 11.2 with GNOME 2.28.2 (or KDE 4.3.5) and Kernel Linux 2.6.31.12-0.2-default (or pae, Ubuntu 10.4 LTS 'lucid' 2.6.33-22-genetic, MS Win XP) - Samsung X20 (SX20S) with Pentium M 740 (1730 MHz), Intel graphic 915GM, 1400x1050 - openSUSE profile: https://users.opensuse.org/show/pistazienfresser -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

SDB and later if no one picks up in a year or so, Archive. Still, no idea how to mark article for the periodic review, besides to create categories per week, month, year and then more for events (one per each) plus container category for all of those categories. -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What did you (list) think about my answer there http://forums.opensuse.org/english/community/opensuse-wiki-discussions/44106... :
Could this categories (or a link to the category side) be added to Roadmap - openSUSE [link: http://en.opensuse.org/Roadmap ] or a working-clone/bigger brother of it?
Also I could think of more links in the news - if someone recognized that something changed about a package/feature/program etc. she or he may go to the linked article (and might also go to the "See also:" articles) and change it or at least leave a message on the discussion page of the article. And in general it may be wise to leave or create a redirect in the main namespace if an package/program is no longer officially/by Novell maintained - maybe the contributer to/maker of an article will notice sooner that a program depends on an other (and that that other is no longer 'officially' part of the default openSUSE distribution) see: http://wiki.opensuse.org/index.php?title=YaST_Mouse_Model&oldid=14253 Greetings pistazienfresser -- - openSUSE profile: https://users.opensuse.org/show/pistazienfresser -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I thinking more along the lines of "Appearance. Desktop, Window Behaviour, Display, Desktop Theme Details" all under the one Icon called "Display or Screen or Monitor" with any advanced options appearing there. Anything related to the visual appearance on the screen should under the one icon. The sub items from the original buttons like "Appearance" can then be viewed like the "System Settings" is displayed now, it makes it a lot easier for a new user to find his configuration option. They are currently laid out in a too techie like format. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
