Hi all, i have this problwm... i know HOW to mount smb-fs's but, when i insert the appropriate commands into /sbin/init.d/boot.local it will try and mount the smbshares BEFORE the network card has been initialised, which obviosly does not work. So, question, where do i put the mounting commands, in order for them to be executed AFTER netcard-init? The easiest way to add things to inittab is to use the sysinitV editor in
kde, it is in the utilities or system group.
After you write the script it will show up in the left most pane. Drag it
into runlevel two and set it's run priority so it falls into the appropriate
order. You'll see what I mean when you run the program.

Umm, yeah, the easiest way to edit a text file is to install X, tons of unnecessary libraries, when all you REALLY needed was: # vi /etc/inittab We're becoming GUI-dependent, a la Windows people. I weep for the future. D At 07:21 PM 2/22/00 +0100, Timothy Metz wrote:

Find the appropriate runlevel (e.g. for runlevel two, change to /sbin/init.d/rc2.d) and then decide on where in the bootup sequence you want it to start. Then just create a symlink to the script: ln -s ../myscript S<number>myscript where <number> is the number of where you want it fitting in and myscript is the name of your script. One other thing... you've just written a script from scratch. It's a good idea to use the skeleton script supplied in the /sbin/init.d directory, and copy it to give it your own name and just edit that. I heard someone mention that one of the network scripts was a better one to use as a skeleton, but I don't remember which one.
